It also was a trip to celebrate the end of her life. How\u2019s that for badass and extremely poignant?<\/p>\n<p>It went like this: In the span of two weeks, 90-year-old Norma Jean Bauerschmidt\u2019s husband died AND she was diagnosed with uterine cancer.&nbsp;Instead of hitting the chemo, she said, \u201cI\u2019m hitting the road.\u201d With her doc\u2019s approval, no less.<\/p>\n<p>Her son Tim, and his wife, Ramie Liddle, offered for her to move into their home \u2013 an RV.&nbsp;Bauerschmidt had spent most of her life in the &#8216;shadow&#8217; of her husband \u2013 as her son put it \u2013 and she decided it was time to have some adventures \u2013 so she said yes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDrivingMissNorma%2Fphotos%2Fa.898817460209858.1073741828.898793136878957%2F1001563943268542%2F%3Ftype%3D3&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"423\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With her dog, her son, and her daughter-in-law, she took off to see America. Bauerschmidt and company ate and drank their way from the Atlantic to the Pacific, stopping to take a dip in each. They saw wild horses and flew hot air balloons. Norma led the way and the gang happily went along for a ride that\u2019s still giving us all travel envy.<\/p>\n<p>Her story\u2019s a shining reminder that your life is yours to live on your own terms: Stay weird. Be kind.
