And it shows the importance they have in shaping American culture not just during election years, but constantly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text_exposed_show\">\u201cI hold onto Werner Herzog\u2019s notion that the job of the artist is to keep your eyes open when everyone else&#8217;s are shut. Sometimes what you see is beautiful and sometimes it\u2019s ugly, and the artist shouldn\u2019t be afraid to hold that mirror,\u201d she told the LA Times. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text_exposed_show\">And we shouldn\u2019t be afraid to take a look.
