He pursued this lingering question mark in college and, most recently, through the creation of a popular Instagram account called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/blaxicansofla\/\">Blaxicans Of LA<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 based on extensive research on multi-racial identity.<\/p>\n<p>This Humans of New York-type of project explores issues of identity, self-discovery, and colorism among their community. Many feel a tension in their Black and Latino communities \u2013 like they can never quite &#8216;prove&#8217; themselves fully to either.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always said that identifying as a Blaxican is a political and revolutionary act,&#8221; says Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 658px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-version=\"7\">\n<div style=\"padding: 8px;\">\n<div style=\"background: #F8F8F8; line-height: 0; margin-top: 40px; padding: 33.3796296296% 0; text-align: center; width: 100%;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin: 8px 0 0 0; padding: 0 4px;\"><a style=\"color: #000; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none; word-wrap: break-word;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/9AOTcAGwXA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cIt\u2019s who I am. Both experiences are two components that make up this city \u2013 two major components. There\u2019s a richness of both cultures. Especially today just the way that certain people are viewing mexicanos, which is crazy to me. Real talk, my sister and my family, we are the American dream \u2013 the modern American dream. They didn\u2019t come from Europe. And I guess I want people to understand that I am the American dream \u2013 I\u2019m 100 percent American. By being receptive to African-American and Mexican histories \u2013 how they are intertwined and continue to shape each other \u2013 he thinks the future will be more inclusive. <a href=\"https:\/\/newsincerity.us\/bart-bay-ride-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inclusivity<\/a> is an identity we can all get behind.<\/p>\n<p>And, as this project has begun to reveal, being of mixed cultures is becoming almost more common than it is not.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Walter Thompson always felt like an enigma.
