It took many years for her, and her family, to accept and celebrate who she was. Finally, in 2016, she came out\u2014and in the pulpit of her church, no less.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Attendance at Frazier&#8217;s church, the <a href=\"https:\/\/fcbcnyc.org\/\">First Corinthian Baptist Church<\/a> (FCBC) in Harlem, has shot up exponentially in the last several years, thanks to its commitment to acceptance. In a society where folks often feel like they have to choose between their faith and their orientation, FCBC offers a safe haven to explore both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The executive pastor, Rev. Michael A. Walrond, Jr., preaches not only faith, but also inclusion and compassion, warmly welcoming the LGBTQ community and people from all walks of life.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n&nbsp;\n\n<figure id=\"attachment_5556\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5556\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5556 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/newsincerity.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/13RELIGION1Y-master1050-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Attendees at F\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attendees at FCBC. Photo: James Estrin\/The New York Times<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n&nbsp;\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Word has spread, and the church has become so popular that long lines of attendees curl around the block every Sunday morning. All three of the Sunday services are often at full capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe as people of color have so many things that we battle with,\u201d Rev. Frazier told Upworthy. \u201cFor many of us, not only are we Black, \u2026 we\u2019re also queer. Churches have to do the work that centers those folks and remind them they are still valid and loved in such a challenging time.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In tandem with regular service, the church is home to the Healing On Purpose and Evolving Center, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HopeCenterHarlem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HOPE<\/a>, a first-of-its-kind program that offers therapy and mental health services for free. The program is led by Rev. Frazier, who Rev.
