The piece is a linocut of a ferocious grizzly bear showing its fangs. Bright, painted poppies bloomed at its feet.<\/p>\n<p>Using the words of California legislature in response to Trump winning the election, the accompanying quote to the illustration reads:&nbsp; &#8220;California was not a part of this nation when its history began. But we are clearly now the keeper of its future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, the Trump presidency has sent tremors through many communities. At the SF-based art space that Rewitzer and Galvin started in 2006 \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.3fishstudios.com\/collections\/digital-prints\/i-love-you-california\">3 Fish Studios<\/a> \u2013 the duo have always included an element of activism in their art.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4534\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4534\" style=\"width: 386px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4534 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/newsincerity.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/california-state-resist-president-donald-trump.jpg\" alt=\"A linocut of a ferocious grizzly bear showing its fangs. Bright, painted poppies bloomed at its feet\" width=\"386\" height=\"580\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Illustration by Eric Rewitzer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Their work is heavily influenced by their surroundings\u2014Rewitzer is originally from Michigan and Galvin from Ireland, but both say they unequivocally consider California their true home.<\/p>\n<p>The two often work collaboratively \u2013 Rewitzer primarily working with linocuts and Galvin with paint. They&#8217;re well-known for their illustration of a grizzly bear embracing California, shrouded by poppies, &#8216;I love you California&#8217; written delicately across the top.<\/p>\n<p>After the North Bay fires in October, that image became a symbol of resilience. The two decided to dedicate all profits from the illustration to help fire victims.
